Halloween Happy Hour & Carnival Cold but Fun

Thanks to the many families who attended NNMT’s annual Halloween celebration. The early winter weather sent us home a bit early, but the food and drinks and all the fun kept us warm for a while. Thanks , too, to Linda Riley, Nicole Russell and Emily Venosa for all the time they put in organizing the event. Great job! See you all next year!

Photos of this year's event can be seen on the NNMT Facebook page.

NNMT Kickoff Celebration and Membership Drive is Sept. 23

The NNMT Board met last week at the home of new Co-President Jacque Connors and set the date for the Kickoff Meeting, which will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, 7:30 p.m. Thanks to Allison Salmon, at 136 Tall Timber, for hosting. (Allison can be reached at 479 283-5826 if you need help with directions). Beverages and desserts will be served!

Please come (and bring your friends and neighbors!) and sign up for another year with the Neighborhood Network.

At the get-together, we will discuss various needs for the upcoming year including:

    • Co-chair (with Lynn Moran) for Secret Visitor
    • Halloween Carnival chair
    • Co-chair for Outreach (with Laura Main and Francie Mansfield)
    • July 4th Parade Chair
    • Ice Cream Social Chair

We will also seek input and present ideas for some new and more numerous social events,  as well as provide dates for our current annual events, so bring your calendar!

Juice box and snack donations for the Cool School Program (an after-school care program benefitting Loveland families in need) would be greatly appreciated.

    Ice Cream and Backpacks!
The Neighborhood Network at Miami Trails is again sponsoring its annual whole-neighborhood Ice Cream Social and Backpack Drive. Held on Sunday, Aug. 16 (rain date is Aug. 30) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Pool 3, this get together is sure to be fun for the whole family. Bring your friends, too! Be sure to wear your bathing suit so you can easily wash off the remnants of the make-your-own sundaes, and get ready to play some summertime games.

And don’t forget to bring filled backpacks for the 2009 Loveland Initiative Back Program for families in need. More than 100 school children in Loveland would love to start the school year off right with good supplies. If you can donate a filled backpack, you will make a child’s day! If you can’t make it to the event and would still like to help, please feel free to drop off your completed backpack at the Spidare house before or on Aug. 16. A list of items can be downloaded by clicking here. As always, thank you for your support. We hope to see you Sunday!

    CancerFree Kids Walk Attracts 800
Despite some windy weather, more than 800 people participated in the CancerFree Kids Butterfly Walk & Carnival at Cottell Park (Deerfield Township) on Saturday, May 9. CancerFree Kids is one of the nonprofits for which the NNMT provides ongoing support. The neighborhood team, Mick’s Milers, was organized by NNMT members Francie Mansfield and Danielle Mangano. Thanks for your work on making this year a great success. See more information at

    McDonald House Outreach Thanks

Many thanks to Laura Main, outreach chair, who organized a very successful dinner for residents of the Ronald McDonald House. A huge thanks to all NNMT members who participated by donating and making food for the cause, or volunteering to serve (or both!) We were out in full force!

Egg Hunt: A Hoppin’ Good Time

The NNMT Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held on the grounds of pool 2 on a beautiful Saturday, March 28. Our kiddos cleaned up on goody-filled eggs (and goody bags!), tried their hand at the beanbag toss through the giant egg, got their faces painted, drew beautiful chalk creations, guessed the number of jelly beans, and did the hop with our best-ever Easter bunny. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and brought snacks and drinks, and especially to Ginny Schenk, who chaired the event. Can’t wait ‘til next year!

    February Full of Fun

NNMT members were kept busy this month with something for everyone. In early February, parents enjoyed watching their kiddos bounce 'round the room, slide and have some simply screamin' fun at NNMT Family Day at Run, Jump & Play. Of course there were plenty of snacks and drinks available for the little ones to refuel before heading home! Thanks to Patti Anton for organizing.

Next up, mid month, was the annual For the Fund of It Party held at the lovely home of Laura Main. This year's benefitting non-profit was The Council on Child Abuse, about which NNMT member Erica Pontius spoke. Each year, the NNMT Outreach Committee considers nominations for non-profit organizations to support through this event. If interested in nominating one for next year, please email neighborhood_net@yahoo.com. Thanks, Laura, for hosting another great event.

Last up for the month of February was not a Valentine's Dance, but something even a little more festive: the second annual Beers (and Wines) Around the World Party. Held at the entertainment capital of the neighborhood - the home of Scott and Suzanne Schweiger, lots of fun was had by all (far too) late into the evening. Thanks Suzanne and Scott!

    December Happenings
The annual Neighborhood Network Christmas party was held the first week of this month. More than 20 members attended, and all had fun kicking off the holiday season with good eats and drinks at the home of Emily Venosa.

Upcoming events such as the popular Beers Around the World Party from last
year (penciled in for January-Februrary) and the Easter Celebration were discussed. There was a reminder for the annual toy drive benefiting the Loveland Initiative, and a call for help from the Outreach Committee to adopt-a-family through the Initiative. Many thanks to Emily for opening her lovely home to the lot of us.

If you're interested in helping with the Beers Around the World Party, please contact Patti Anton at
placga@aol.com or Allyson Handler at dhandler@cinci.rr.com

An Easter Celebration coordinator is also needed. Email Jeanne Dwyer at
    jeanne-bill@cinci.rr.com

Last, if you need more information
about the Loveland Initiative, please email Joanne Stallman at

    Halloween Party a Success

The NNMT hosted its annual neighborhood Halloween party at Pool 2. Loads of little ghouls and goblins (and dragons, and Dorothy's and Power Rangers and fairies and Spidermen...) attended the event with their parents. They marched in the Halloween parade, went on hay rides, and won prizes by playing croquet, bean bag toss, hula hoop toss, pumpkin bowling and "guess how many candy corns are in the jar" (There were 1300! Yikes!)

Enticing even the smallest of the costumed bunch was the spooky haunted house, completed with "guess what's in the cauldron", scary music, dancing skeletons and other creepies. Crafts and face painting, candies and snacks rounded out the fun-filled afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who went out of their way to make the event possible, especially event chairs Natalie Hitch and Danielle Cornwall. We all had a boooootiful time.

    Fall Events Announced

Mark your calendars and get ready for fall as the NNMT kicks off its new year with several events. The kickoff meeting, welcome celebration and member drive will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25. We'll also be collecting for Loveland Initiative's after-school program called Cool School that night. On Friday, Oct. 10, members can sign up to bring the kiddos to do some pumpkin decorating. And on Friday, Oct. 25, all neighbors are welcome to put on a costume and join in our annual Halloween Party and Parade.

    Summer Outreach Efforts a Success

Many thanks to all NNMT members and non-members who have been so generous in support of the following outreach efforts.

    • In May, the NNMT provided and served home-cooked meals to more than 70 residents of the Ronald McDonald House.

    • In June, our neighborhood-wide Food Drive provided more than two "trunk fulls" of food to the LIFE Food Pantry in Loveland.

    • Many neighbohood families joined in the Butterfly Walk for CancerFree Kids, in support of Mick Ludeke, a six-year-old from our neighborhood who is battling the disease. Your participation and contributions helped raise $38,000 in the fight against pediatric cancer.

    • At the annual neighborhood-wide Backpack Drive and Ice Cream Social in August, 28 stuffed backpacks and several bags of extra supplies were collected for students benefiting from The Loveland Initiative.

    • Over the summer, many of you provided The Loveland Initiative with their most pressing needs, such as clothing for children. Tax-deductible donations are accepted on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Loveland Initiative office (405 Loveland Madeira Road, across from Goodwill).
